We are now convinced that technology is an asset to finding a solution to the challenges that our students face. Where Do We Go from Here? We need to:
A. Apply technology to enhance current curriculum practices
B. Join online professional learning communities:
· To stay abreast of technological development
· To engage in reflection
· To share the effects of technology on our practices and our students’ learning
· To evaluate the effectiveness of our practices
C. Conduct/encourage the conduct of action research
D. Collaborate in the design of innovative culturally responsive literacy opportunities for our students
E. Consider membership to the Trinidad & Tobago Computer Society & the Trinidad & Tobago Reading Association

I certainly agree with all your suggestions and I do hope that we are all committed to applying all that we have learned in this course. It is my opinion that we would not achieve much success if we do not collaborate and are prepared to assist each other in our quest to improve the reading proficiency of students. We must also take the time to share our knowledge with our colleagues who may not be as fortunate to have had the traing and exposure we have had. I am glad that you shared the information about the Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society as I was completely oblivious of its existence. However I believe that the best action when all is said and done is to lead by example. Reading is one sure way to ensure that we are kept in the know about new developments in the field. We must also use library resources to access journals, articles etc. which are packed with information and prespectives to empower readers. I know that it requires a lot of reading and discussion to become an authority in a subject and I hope that ultimately we all will endeavour to this.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the suggestions about enhancing our personal and professional skills, as the way forward .However,we need to be mindful of the fact that we work within the context of the Ministry of Education and although our intentions maybe worthwhile, our employers must create the technological rich environment for our goals to be realized or else we will simply have visions of virtual classrooms . Teachers, even though they are convinced about the benefits of the technology, will be reluctant to use it if their classrooms are not conducive to assistive technology .A good place for the Ministry of Education to start is by giving those laptops, which were promised to the S.E.A.students to schools , provide internet access and approptiate software to support the technology, then and only then can we ,as reading specialists "lead by example." How can I become a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society?
ReplyDeleteI will respond in ascending order. Visit the web- site of the T & T Computer Society with respect to membership at http://www.ttcsweb.org/
ReplyDeleteThe Society has submitted a position paper to the T & T. Ministry of Education on the supply of laptops to S.E.A. students and, it is available on the website. Based on our experiences from this Course, we could compile lesson plans that incorporate the use of laptops.
